VBCCO Member Privacy Policy
The Virginia Beach Council of Civic Organizations Inc. (“VBCCO”) is committed to
protection of your privacy.
Throughout this Privacy Policy, the terms "we", "us," and "our" refer to VBCCO.
The terms “you” and “your” refer to VBCCO volunteers, individual members; member
organizations, including your officers, directors, and members; and members of
the general public who register for VBCCO events.
We have established this Privacy Policy so that you can understand how we treat
your Personal Information. Personal
Information collected by us will be used only in direct pursuit of our mission.
The Types Information We Collect
For Volunteers, Individual Members, and the VBCCO event participants, Personal
Information means any information that may be used to identify an individual,
including, a first and last name, a home or other physical address, and phone
number(s) and/or email address(es) or other contact information, whether at work
or at home, and other information we gather about you when you join or
volunteer. For Member Organizations, Personal Information includes your
organization’s name address, phone numbers and website; the names and contact
information for your officers and directors; and the names and contact
information for your members, including but not limited to your VBCCO voting
representatives, newsletter editor, webmaster, and VBCCO award nominees.
Your Personal Information may be accessed by VBCCO volunteers, including
officers and directors, or by third-party service providers in the delivery of
member services and to communicate with you about news and updates, and your
VBCCO membership. Any volunteers or third-party service providers who access
your data are under an obligation to use your Personal Information only for the
purpose we authorize them.
Applicable Laws
We strive to comply with all applicable laws that are designed to protect your
privacy. Although legal requirements may vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction,
we intend to adhere to the principles set forth in this Privacy Policy even if,
in connection with the above, we transfer your Personal Information to
jurisdictions that may not require an "adequate" level of protection for your
Personal Information. In other words, our goal is to provide protection for your
Personal Information no matter where that Personal Information is collected,
transferred, or retained.
How We Use Your Information
We may use your Personal Information to:

Improve and customize the benefits of membership of our organization

Notify you, or your members, of organization news, events, and programs
·
Keep you updated about any changes in VBCCO.
·
To communicate with you on any matter concerning your membership.
·
Provide you with news and updates about city and community programs, issues, and
events that we believe may be of interest to you.

Conduct polls and surveys regarding local and state issues and topics we believe
may affect our members, current or future VBCCO events, programs, or member
services.

To solicit your views on important issues that we believe affect our members.
Information to and from Third Parties
We may occasionally relay non-commercial information to you from third parties,
including the City of Virginia Beach and its departments and agencies, the
Commonwealth of Virginia and its departments and agencies; city, state, and
Federal elected officials; and registered candidates for city, state, or Federal
office, when we believe such information may be useful or relevant to either you
or your members. . However, we never share your Personal Information with these
organizations. If you prefer not to receive this type of communication, you may
opt-out by sending an email to
privacy@vbcco.org.
Publication of Your Personal Information
Your organization’s name, website URL if provided, and status as a VBCCO member
may be published on our website and in our monthly newsletter which is
distributed to members, city and state officials, and other interested parties
who so request.
Beginning August 1, 2009, the name, phone number, and email address of your
designated representative will no longer be posted on our website. Even after
this information is no longer published by VBCCO, copies of this information may
remain available to internet users through cached archives such as search
engines.
On or before August 1, 2009, this direct-contact information will be replaced by
a Member-Contact email form allowing website visitors to send email that will be
forwarded to Member Organizations’ designated email address. VBCCO may retain an
archived copy of emails sent through this system for quality assurance purposes.
Under no circumstances will we sell or receive payment for licensing or
disclosing your Personal Information. We
will not rent or sell your personally identifying information to other companies
or individuals, unless we have your consent. We may share such information in
any of the following limited circumstances:

We have your consent.

We provide such information to trusted businesses or persons for the sole
purpose of processing personally identifying information on our behalf. When
this is done, it is subject to agreements that oblige those parties to process
such information only on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy
Policy and appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

We are required to do so by law.
·
We have a good faith belief that access, preservation or disclosure of such
information is reasonably necessary to protect our rights, property or safety
and that of users or the public.
While we cannot guarantee privacy perfection, we will address any issue to the
best of our abilities as soon as possible.
Should this Privacy Policy change, we will publish such changes on the VBCCO
website and announce the change in our newsletter.
Do Not Call Registry
The Federal Government's National Registry allows consumers to stop receiving
most telemarketing sales calls. You can register online at
www.donotcall.gov or call toll free
1-888-382-1222 from the number you wish to register. Registration is free.
The national do not call registry does not apply to charities, political
organization, and telephone surveys as well as existing business relationships,
such as your VBCCO membership. If you place your number on the national registry
you may still receive occasional calls from us. If you want to stop these calls
as well please update your communications preferences directly with VBCCO.
Opt-Out
You can opt out of sharing your personally identifiable information with any
third-party service by choosing not to use such member services that are
provided by third-party service providers. The registration page for some member
services has a checkbox at the bottom. You can opt out of such member services
by clearing the checkbox.
You can opt out of receiving updates and news by sending us an email and
informing us about your decision to opt out. Some newsletters and direct email
communications have easy-to-follow unsubscribe instructions at the bottom of
each email. You can opt out by following such instructions.
